EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy technique often used to help individuals process and overcome traumatic experiences. It focuses on reducing the intensity of emotional distress linked to difficult memories. EMDR involves guiding the patient through structured sessions where they recall painful memories while performing bilateral stimulation, such as following the therapist's finger with their eyes, listening to alternating tones, or tapping on their hands.
This process aims to reprocess traumatic memories, helping the brain store them more adaptively. Over time, the emotional charge associated with these memories decreases, allowing individuals to respond to triggers in a healthier way. EMDR has been extensively studied and is recognized as an effective treatment for conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression.
